TURN IT ON

Whats New

Wow! Where does the time go too?  Sadly we had to cancel the craft fair in July, this due to the drain gurgling up water onto the floor, this would have been too dangerous for our clients, so appologies all around.  We have accepted an invite to display and demonstrate at the Scottish Mobility Roadshow  17th & 18th September (see main page) so I am looking forward to seeing all our regulars at the show.  We were invited to display at the Scottich Woodworking show but due to prior commitments (I am flying away) we had to decline but as you see we are supporting it in every way we can.

CurrentNews

Friday 21st May 2010 we attended the Spinal Injuries Scotland awards lunch, the scoff was fantastic and a great bunch of folk attended.  We were honoured to have made the awards for the third year running and they were well received.

I am over the moon that we have been asked to make the awards for 2011 and I already have my thinking cap on, although it has to be said that my head is empty of ideas (nothing new there then).  The workshop has been busy and we have had a few new members, which is great.

August Craft Fair went without a hitch and we had a great day, with good sales and good attendance.

JIMMY CLEWES DVD SET TURN IT ON

It Has taken me a while but I have finally finished watching all of "Turn it On" DVD's by Jimmy Clewes.

Cost: separately £19.95 plus postage – or £49.95 plus postage for a box set of all three (2008)

Summary

I have watched Jimmy at the Scottish woodworking show and at a venue in Scotland, I like his very matter of fact approach and his no nonsense outlook.  I find with Jimmy Clewes what you get is what you see and because of his skill there is no pretence.  The DVD's are superbly shot with good camera angle and good clarity.  Jimmy gives a great commentary and his descriptions are spot on.  The subject matter in each DVD is well covered and the extra features are informative and useful.

Value For Money

These DVDS as a training aid or a reference are worth every penny.

Turn it on Volume One

Apart from the main features, the extra bit on sharpening is great, the fact that Jimmy sees the value in using a jig for repeatability is refreshing, a lot of professionals still stick to this "Freehand is the only way" approach, that may have been fine when you were making hundreds of one item but as amateurs we make just the one then make something different, the same is true for modern professionals like Jimmy Clewes.
