Whats New

The training days are back on the agenda, I have been feeling much better over the past weeks as the Pernicious Anaemia has been brought more under control with extra b12 injections.  This is not something I would wish on anyone and in the past it has caused many deaths, now, in this day and age, it is a simple matter, once diagnosed, to obtain b12 injections which are administered until a certain level is reached and then on a regular basis after that.  The  type 2 diabetes is well under control and this has been achieved by a complete change in my diet.  The Spinal Injuries Scotland Awards (SEE PICTURES) have now been completed and the three awards were well received.  I intend to try and coast along for a wee while and try to re-charge my body batteries as well as my wheelchair ones.

HOW WE RAISE FUNDING FOR OURSELVES AND OTHERS

Wheelchair Woodturners has always wanted to stand on its own two wheels (or four or legs) to achieve this we must sell our work.  ALL of the money raised goes back into the workshop or is used to outreach to other folk or communities.

There are various way that we raise funds.  The first is that we are lucky enough to organise our own little Craft Fair in the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, this has now been going for about three and a half years and is a regular event in the West End of Glasgow.  We have a varied group of crafters and most of them have been with us for some time now.  All profit from the hire of the tables is paid to charity, mainly Marie Curie Hospice Glasgow, 2008 we contributed £500 and in 2009 we will have contributed in excess of £700, £500 going to Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow and £150 to North Lanarkshire Cancer Care trust, these folk organise a service which collects cancer patients from their homes and takes them to their appointments and then runs them home again.  A further donation will be made to BLESMA in the new year (2010)

INTERNET SHOP

This is something new for 2010, we are selling items from this website. Just put the mouse arrow over the " OUR ONLINE SHOP" and then pick the area you are interested in.

Each item is hand crafted in the Wheelchair Woodturners Workshop and because we can only make items when feeling up to it, there is never going to be a huge volume of items for sale.  Any wood that is used comes from within a Fifty mile radius of Glasgow and is good SCOTTISH wood(IF ITs WOODEN!), which in my humble opinion is the best in the world.  There are some very small things we make from imported wood but this is limited to things like tiny handles for the draws, this wood is not purchased by us but is from donations of wood, wood types like Indian Rosewood, Ebony, African Blackwood, all of these we have in VERY small pieces.  The majority of the wood is ELM, ASH, BEECH, OAK, some birch and a smattering of fruit woods like PEAR, APPLE and CHERRY, ALL GROWN IN SCOTLAND AND NONE HARVESTED, its all windblown or taken down for safety reasons.

Every item coming out of our workshop will be certified as made in Scotland and will have a description of the woods used in its crafting, as well as the name of the Artist who made it.

Every item will be individually photographed and then added to the catalogue, when sold that item will be marked as such and will be posted out within two working days.

Payment will all be through "PayPal" and in this way our clients can be assured of the security of their details, please read our privacy policy (Privacy Statement) Wheelchair Woodturners NEVER see your card details and we never give out an address, telephone number or email address.

20% of ALL PROFIT FROM INTERNET SALES WILL BE GIVEN TO CHARITY

So we will see how that all goes in 2010, however as we no longer do a second craft fair, we feel that there will be a hole in our fund raising for Marie Curie, to this end we have decided that 20% of all profit from Internet sales will go to Charity, this in addition to the Botanic Gardens money.

WHEELCHAIR WOODTURNERS IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION
